Dike Breaching Experts from Netherland and Belgium Visited CRSRI

Associate professor Dr. Paul J. Visser from Delft University of Technology and Dr. Patrik Peeters from Flauders Hydraulics Research visited CRSRI on 12th – 16th March, 2013. The tour was in a purpose of examining and guiding the Dike Breaching Research Program carried out by Dr. Zhao Gensheng who is cooperatively educated by CRSRI, Hohai University and Delft University of Technology, and having academic communication.

On 14th March, Dr. Zhao carried out a flume experiment of sandy and clayey dike breach at the Physical Model for Flood Control in Zhuankou Base with the assistance of researchers from River Department, Engineering Safety and Disaster Prevention Department and Key Laboratory of Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering. Professor Visser inspected and instructed the experiment, researchers and postgraduate students from Changjiang Water Resources Commission (CWRC), CRSRI, Wuhan University and Wuhan University of Technology viewed the experiment. 

On the Next Day, President Lu Jinyou hosted an academic exchange meeting with no less than 30 attendances. Professor Visser, Dr. Zhao and Dr. Peeters respectively addressed the meeting with reports titled Breach Development in Dikes, Breach of Embankment, Dams and Dikes, and Organization of in situ dike breaching experiments in Belgium.

After that, they had an informal discussion with President Chen Jin, during which they reviewed the achievements of exchange visits, talent training and project cooperation between both sides, and discussed the future collaboration in the long-run. The reception was accomplished by CRSRI’s deputy chief engineer Dong Yaohua, vice director Yao Shiming and deputy chief engineer Zhu Yonghui of River Department, Dr. Liang Jun from Engineering Safety and Disaster Prevention Department, and Luo Xue from Administration Office.
